In March of 2006, Garden of Life made a commitment to purchase 100 percent of its electrical needs through renewable energy certificates that support newly constructed wind energy projects. By doing so, we prevented more than 1 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the Earth’s atmosphere, the equivalent of planting 129 acres of trees or taking 99 cars off the road. We’re proud that we can do something to make a difference.

Now we’re ready to take that commitment a step further through our
Living Green initiative. 

It’s simple. Garden of Life is matching the current electric bills of the top 250 retailers of Garden of Life products.

At no cost to our best customers, we are buying renewable energy certificates in the amount of the store’s current utility bill. Everything about their electrical power stays the same. Purchase of the credits go to supporting wind power. The beauty of this plan is that by increasing the market for renewable energy, we are reducing the demand for fossil-fuel generated energy.

These renewable energy certificates support clean energy development and offset the carbon emissions from each store’s electricity. Since it is physically impossible to deliver electricity straight from a wind farm to a local store, wind energy credit makes purchasing wind power possible. Sure, it’s going to cost us quite a bit. That’s how serious we are about sustainable living. We see it as a win-win for us, our retail partners, their customers and, of course, the Earth. We’re all supporting clean energy development. Our retailer partners will be recognized for their concern for the environment and their contribution to the development of renewable energy sources.

Using 100 kWh of wind power each month is equivalent to: • Planting ½ acre of trees • Not driving 2,400 miles Also.. Though accounting for only 5 percent of the world's population, Americans consume 26 percent of the world's energy.

We hope that message will reach each consumer who enters our partner stores and help raises awareness of the importance of clean, renewable energy for everyone.
